(Rockwall, TX)—Many folks remember Jason Castro, the young dreadlocked guitar player on American Idol's 2008 season, as the talented soft-spoken Christian who made it into the show's top four that year. (Photo via YouTube.com)
But what many people don't know, is that after his international success the year following American Idol, Castro said it all "started to feel a little meaningless."
He began to ask himself why he was continuing to pursue music as a career. Was it for fame? Money?
"I started to really have a longing to have more God in life," said Castro, who recently cut his hair as a symbol of his changed life. "I wanted more God in my life [and] I got to this point where I realized God doesn't want me to do anything on my own. He wants me to give it all to Him and trust Him with everything."
Since then, Castro—a proud husband, and father of a 2-year-old girl whom he said "changed everything" for him—has released his first Christian album, Only a Mountain. According to a CBNreport, he also spends much of his time overseas as a spokesperson for the charities Malaria No More and helping with Roma Boots, a nonprofit dedicated to providing boots to children in need.
