There is always lots of speculation as to what the "Mark" of the beast will be. It has been stated that everything from the barcode to rfid was the mark. The truth is, we will not know what it is until it actually happens. Chances are it is something supernatural rather than mechanical or technological. But it is more than likely not anything we have currently seen. That being said, this is something that could very well be a forerunner to what the mark could be.
