While many of you may not agree with all that Libertarian Kentucky Senator Rand Paul believers, you might agree with him on this statement. In a shocking speech given at the University of California-Berkeley, Paul openly admits that there is a “shadow government agency” who is “drunk with power” and that elected representatives are afraid of those operating behind the veil.
Senator Paul makes this shocking statement in his speech:
“I am honestly worried, concerned about who is truly in charge of our government. Most of you have read the dystopian nightmares and maybe, like me, you doubted that it could ever happen in America.”
“If the CIA is spying on Congress, who exactly can or will stop them?”
“I look into the eyes of senators and I think I see real fear. Maybe it’s just my imagination, but I think I perceive FEAR of an intelligence community drunk with power, unrepentant, and uninclined to relinquish power.”
The Berkeley speech came in the wake of the recent Snowden disclosure that the NSA was recording all of the phone calls in an unspecified foreign country, using a program called “MYSTIC” and a tool named RETRO — for “retrospective retrieval”.
The MYSTIC program is a surveillance system capable of recording “100 percent” of a foreign country’s telephone calls, enabling the agency to rewind and review conversations as long as a month after they take place.
Although the NSA argues that it is lawful for them operate such programs in foreign countries, there is nothing preventing them from doing it right here in America.
Snowden is now calling for a “Magna Carta” for the internet.
“I grew up in the Internet, I believe a Magna Carta for the Internet is exactly what we need. We need to encode our values in the structure of the Internet. I invite everyone in the audience to join and participate.”
