Original Article: RT News Shoppers got more than they bargained for beginning Thursday evening as retail outlets across the United States opened their doors early for annual Black Friday deal seekers, predictably prompting an array of violent episodes from city to city. ![]() With some stores starting their Black Friday discounts early Thanksgiving evening, consumers in cities across the United States lined up for hours, in some instances days, to snag deep deals at the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season. Just as in years past, however, an array of incidents in shopping aisles and parking lots from suburbs and major cities alike had already occurred by early Friday. Shoot-outs and physical altercations have already marred this year’s Black Friday for many. One instance of that unfolded late on Thursday near Chicago, when a police officer was dragged by the car of a fleeing suspected shoplifter, leaving the cop with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The ordeal unraveled on Thursday night outside of a Kohl’s department store in Romeoville, Illinois, where an officer had to open fire at the escaping driver in order to prevent the vehicle from speeding away with another cop’s arm caught in the car’s door. Moments earlier two officers arrived at the store and attempted to confront a 51-year-old suspected shoplifter, according to the Sun-Times, but the man made it into a getaway vehicle and managed to escape with the help of a driver, who was later hit by at least one of the three or four shots fired by a backup officer in an effort to stop the car. Police told the paper that the officer, who was dragged by the vehicle, suffered a non-life-threatening shoulder injury, and the two men who had attempted to flee the scene were charged along with a third suspect. At that crime scene and others, customers in many instances continued to shop late Thursday into early Friday, seemingly unaffected by gun shots and violence according to many local reports. "Is the store open?" one would-be Kohl’s shopper asked the Chicago Tribune as passers-by attempted to make sense of the officer-involved shooting. "What happened?"
