The bishop called the breadth and scale of the suffering of Christians “unprecedented.”
At least 100,000 Christians are killed every year because of their faith, which amounts to 273 per day, or eleven every hour, McAreavey said, without mentioning those who are “being tortured, imprisoned, exiled, threatened, excluded, attacked and discriminated against on a widespread scale.” In a sobering presentation before the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade this past week, McAreavey said that Christianity is the most oppressed religion in the world, and the followers of Jesus are actively persecuted in some 110 countries. More striking still, he contended, according to the International Society for Human Rights, a non-religious organization, “80 percent of all acts of religious discrimination in the world today are directed against Christians.”

The New York tabloids are abuzz with the news.
Rats are taking over 1 World Trade Center, the glitzy new office tower built at Ground Zero. They’re chewing through carpet, snacking on crumbs of food left on computer keyboards and generally terrorizing the building’s anchor tenant – publishing house Condé Nast. Stories have chronicled the reactions of editors and writers with Vogue, Vanity Fair, Glamour, Allure, Teen, Self, GQ, Bon Appétit and New Yorker magazines, all of which have recently moved into or at least toured their new digs at what was supposed to be the city’s poshest new address. Some might find humor in the thought of Vogue Editor Anna Wintour having to fight off a burly rodent to get to her morning coffee. Cream, sugar and a little vermin on the side, Anna? But others have a decidedly more sober take on the stories coming out of the New York Post, New York Observer, the Daily News and other publications. In fact, this news may be a signal, another “harbinger” of America’s decline as a result of turning its back on God and Judeo-Christian values, says Messianic Jewish Rabbi Jonathan Cahn. Cahn, author of the New York Times-bestsellers “The Harbinger” and “The Mystery of the Shemitah,” says that since his first book was released in 2011, the harbingers he revealed have not stopped. “They have continued to manifest and unfold,” he said. What does that mean? It's an ironic headline, considering how hard this Florida beach town is trying to tame Spring Break. Panama City has more churches than it has bars—but one church has positioned itself more like a strip club than a sanctuary for the season. Yes, really.
The Panama City News Herald shows photos of The Life Center's banner inviting youth to naked paint parties and slumber-party Sundays that promise the "sexiest ladies on the beach." The everyday party is called Spring Break Amnesia. It's been running since Feb. 28—and a pastor who was recently arrested on charges of giving drugs to a minor and forcing himself on her masterminded it.
. Anna Kooiman reported on "Fox and Friends Weekend" this morning that the new video depicts an image of the mega-mall with its GPS coordinates as a man tells followers to use the Westgate massacre as inspiration. The Mall of America has taken the threat very seriously, increasing security and releasing a statement that says, "Mall of America is aware of a video that was recently released which included a mention and images of the Mall. We will continue to monitor events with the help of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies." Other terror targets mentioned in the video include popular malls in the United Kingdom and Canada

By Simon Parry In Manila, The Philippines, For Mailonline Street children as young as five are being caged in brutal detention centres alongside adult criminals in a cynical drive to smarten up the Philippines capital ahead of a visit by Pope Francis this week. Hundreds of boys and girls have been rounded up from doorways and roadsides by police and officials and put behind bars in recent weeks to make the poverty-racked city more presentable when Pope Francis arrives tomorrow, a MailOnline investigation has found. In a blatant abuse of the country's own child protection laws, the terrified children are locked up in filthy detention centres where they sleep on concrete floors and where many of them are beaten or abused by older inmates and adult prisoners and, in some cases, starved and chained to pillars. Six million people are expected to attend an open air mass conducted by Pope Francis in Manila's Rizal Park on Sunday, which will watched by a global TV audience and officials appear determined to ensure that urchins are hidden from view. However, the Bingham County Sheriff's Office says that it did not receive any calls from residents about Sunday night's alleged blast.
This is in stark contrast to the explosion that several Groveland residents reported to the Sheriff's Office on Wednesday afternoon. Those reports prompted sheriff's deputies, Blackfoot fire units and Idaho State Police to respond to Groveland to find what blew up. But their search of the area turned up nothing. Riverside is located about three miles west of Blackfoot, while Groveland is about two miles northwest of Blackfoot. Riverside and Groveland have about 850 residents each. Because no one reported Sunday night's explosion to the Sheriff's Office it's unclear if the incident is going to be investigated. When contacted Friday about the Wednesday explosion, the Sheriff's Office had no leads on what caused the blast. Dozens of Groveland and Riverside residents have commented about the explosions on social media. Stay with idahostatejournal.com for updates.
This past week, the U.S. and E.U. adapted tighter sanctions on the Russian economy, including restrictions on investments in the Crimea, with emphasis on Russian Black Sea oil and gas exploration and tourism. The official said there is information Russia in recent weeks successfully shipped to Hezbollah a large convoy of Iskandar ballistic missiles and surface-to-air missiles. The missiles were received, despite Israel’s alleged airstrikes in Syria targeting Russian-shipped weapons earlier this month, the official said. The official said Russia has not made any decision about agitating a Hezbollah attack on Israel, but views a possible conflict in the Mideast as a card it can play in its confrontation with the West, particularly in Ukraine.
