Q&A: Is Reincarnation True?

10/5/2016

Source: Living Waters

Reincarnation is the teaching that after death, the soul goes to a holding place and then enters a new human body.  Some even believe we are incarnated into animals, plants , and even inanimate objects. This cycle continues over and over again for thousands of years until the person supposedly learns what he/she needs to be learn, and then the reincarnation process ceases.

Belief in reincarnation is a central tenet within the majority of Indian religions, such as Hinduism, Sikhism, and Jainism. In the west, some New Age movements, along with followers of spiritism also adhere to reincarnation. For the Christian, however, there can be no doubt: reincarnation is unbiblical and must be rejected as false. If reincarnation is true, then there is no Day of Judgment, no need for the Cross and no need to trust in Christ.

Q&A: What are the lost books of the Bible?

Answer:  There are no “lost books” of the Bible, or books that were taken out of the Bible, or books missing from the Bible. Every book that God intended to be in the Bible is in the Bible. There are many legends and rumors of lost books of the Bible, but the books were not, in fact, lost. Rather, they were rejected. There are literally hundreds of religious books that were written in the same time period as the books of the Bible. Some of these books contain true accounts of things that actually occurred (1 Maccabees, for example). Others contain some good spiritual teaching (the Wisdom of Solomon, for example). However, these books are not inspired by God. If we read any of these books, such as the Apocryphal ones mentioned above, we have to treat them as fallible religious/historical books, not as the inspired, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17 )

Q&A: Why Would a God of Love Send Someone to Hell

I'm often asked why God would send people to a place of torment. Since God is loving, why would He send people to hell?

Why should we think God has a less sense of justice than mankind?  God is loving, but that's not all He is, He's also a good judge. Should a loving human judge allow criminals to go free? Of course not. If we, with our finite justice system think it's necessary to punish criminals in civil court, how much more should an infinite God judge our crimes, our sins against Him?

The Bible tells us God alone is holy.  He is the standard of all that is right and good.  His nature is pure.

Q&A: Is God male or female?

Answer:  In examining Scripture, two facts become clear. First, God is a Spirit and does not possess human characteristics or limitations. Second, all the evidence contained in Scripture agrees that God revealed Himself to mankind in a male form. To begin, God’s true nature needs to be understood. God is a Person, obviously, because God exhibits all the characteristics of personhood: God has a mind, a will, an intellect, and emotions. God communicates and He has relationships, and God’s personal actions are evidenced throughout Scripture

Q&A: How can one God be three persons?

The doctrine of the Trinity — that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are each equally and eternally the one true God — is admittedly difficult to comprehend, and yet is the very foundation of Christian truth. Although skeptics may ridicule it as a mathematical impossibility, it is nevertheless a basic doctrine of Scripture as well as profoundly realistic in both universal experience and in the scientific understanding of the cosmos. Both Old and New Testaments teach the Unity and the Trinity of the Godhead.

The idea that there is only one God, who created all things, is repeatedly emphasized in such Scriptures as

Isaiah 45:18: “For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the Earth and made it; …I am the Lord; and there is none else.”

Q&A: "What happens to those who have never heard about Jesus?"

Answer:  All people are accountable to God whether or not they have “heard about Him.” The Bible tells us that God has clearly revealed Himself in nature (Romans 1:20) and in the hearts of people (Ecclesiastes 3:11). The problem is that the human race is sinful; we all reject this knowledge of God and rebel against Him (Romans 1:21-23). If it were not for God's grace, we would be given over to the sinful desires of our hearts, allowing us to discover how useless and miserable life is apart from Him. He does this for those who continually reject Him (Romans 1:24-32).

In reality, it is not that some people have not heard about God. Rather, the problem is that they have rejected what they have heard and what is readily seen in nature. Deuteronomy 4:29 proclaims, “But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.” This verse teaches an important principle—everyone who truly seeks after God will find Him. If a person truly desires to know God, God will make Himself known.

Q&A: Did Bible writers believe the Earth was flat?

8/5/2016

No, this false idea is not taught in Scripture.

Some Bible critics have claimed that Revelation 7:1 assumes a flat Earth since the verse refers to angels standing at the “four corners” of the Earth. Actually, the reference is to the cardinal directions: north, south, east, and west. Similar terminology is often used today when we speak of the sun's rising and setting, even though the Earth, not the sun, is doing the moving. Bible writers used the “language of appearance,” just as people always have. Without it, the intended message would be awkward at best and probably not understood clearly. [DD]
