A teenager who killed a girl in a Satanic ritual gouged out her eye as she begged for her life, a court has heard.
Jose Reyes from Houston, Texas, is on trial for capital murder over the killing of 15-year-old Corriann Cervantes, allegedly as part of a satanic ritual which involved mutilating her body.
Reyes, 18, and a 16-year-old accomplice, who faces capital murder charges as a minor, are said to have lured Corriann to an empty flat where they raped her before beating her to death.

It has long been said that poverty-stricken environments are a major factor leading to crimes committed by adolescents.
However, the Peterborough Adolescent and Young Adult Development Study, conducted by Cambridge University, suggests that crime among teenagers is influenced as much or more by their morals as it is by their environment, including their economic background.
According to the study, nearly half of adolescent crimes are committed by a miniscule 3.8 percent of teenagers. This group of teenagers averaged 278 offenses each over the course of the five-year study, which followed the teenagers from the age of 12 through 16.

A 16-year-old Pennsylvania student has been charged as an adult in the early morning knife attack on at least 21 people at Franklin Regional Senior High School near Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
The suspect, Alex Hribal, was charged with four counts of attempted homicide, 21 counts of aggravated assault and one count of bringing a weapon on school property, said his attorney, Patrick Thomassey. Hribal was being held without bail at Westmoreland County Juvenile Detention Center.
